Psychotherapy

At times, life can be overwhelming and stressful. In the context of past or present relationships, we may develop unhelpful coping strategies which don’t always work or help us anymore. Issues such as anxiety, depression, work-related stress, trauma or family issues may surface and become debilitating. They may not go away without help.

Psychotherapy can help make sense of these difficulties through the exploration of thoughts and feelings connected to them. In a safe, confidential and nurturing environment and in a non-judgemental relationship with the therapist, these obstacles which are preventing you from fulfilling your potential, can be overcome. Importantly, therapy can help you live your life with greater meaning, purpose and sense of belonging.

I invite you to take this step.

FAQs

WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO TAKE?

Contact me by phone or email for a free informal, confidential chat. I would like to hear about you and the issues that concern you. As we talk for 15-20 minutes, you will also have the chance to ask questions about how I work, fees or anything else you are curious about. From there, if you are comfortable doing so, we can arrange an initial appointment.

Our telephone conversation and first appointment will give you a sense of what it might feel like to work with me and give you an indication of whether I might be a good therapeutic fit for you.

HOW DOES PSYCHOTHERAPY WORK?

Effective therapy is based on a trusting relationship and chemistry is an essential healing ingredient. Each person’s unique needs and challenges are taken into consideration. Therapy involves not only the healing of psychic wounds but uncovering unconscious blocks which prevent emotional growth and your creative potential. My role as a therapist is to help you understand yourself, especially the unacknowledged aspects of yourself. No two people are the same.

WHAT IS PSYCHODYNAMIC PSYCHOTHERAPY?

This type of therapy focuses on the difficulties you are currently having and helps you to understand the underlying causes and issues, often which stem from the past. Attention is paid to feelings and beliefs you may not be aware of, but which affect how you function. Unconscious thoughts may be contributing to unhelpful repetitive patterns of behaving. Psychodynamic therapy helps you gain a deeper understanding about yourself, your feelings and your circumstances which can lead to meaningful growth and change.

ARE THE SESSIONS CONFIDENTIAL?

Yes, I am a member of the BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council) and UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy)

HOW LONG DOES PSYCHOTHERAPY TAKE?

This depends on your unique circumstances and needs. An open-ended approach in which there is space to explore new issues that may arise once the therapy has started may be most helpful. There is also the possibility of having a time limited therapy to focus on one particular area.
